Hand dyed 70% Babydoll Southdown 15% Mulberry Silk 15% Mohair blend sock/fingering weight yarn, 400 yards, 100 grams, 3 ply. Canadian wool and mohair, milled in Canada.
This is a very special sock yarn - completely synthetic free, and yet, washable! Babydoll Southdown is a small, adorable breed of sheep that's known for its soft, yet washable wool. I had it blended with 15% Mulberry silk and 15% mohair for added strength to make a wonderfully elastic, strong, and washable sock yarn. I have washed this yarn in hot water and run it through the dryer on a high heat setting, with minimimal shrinkage. Your results may vary, of course, so for best results, wash this yarn in cool water and dry flat.
"Waterlily" is a soft turquoise with tonal variations.
The wool for this yarn was sourced from a small flock located in Ladysmith, Vancouver Island, BC, and the mohair comes from a herd in the Thompson-Nicola region of BC. The silk is imported. Milled at That Darn Yarn Mill, Kamloops, B.C.
Please note that due to the nature of Southdown wool, there are some slubs, along with vegetable matter, in this yarn, and as a result, it's more rustic than commerical sock yarn.
