Title:

One of the great joys of the Small Bird Workshop is finding beautiful Canadian wool and getting it employed! And, this 100% Ontario Tunis worsted weight yarn is certainly worthy of many jobs - Catherine's using it for a new shawl design right now, but it will also make fantastic sweaters, mittens, or hats. Tunis sheep (the breed's full name is American Tunis) are a heritage breed sheep that almost went extinct during the American Civil War. They are hardy, excellent mothers, and produce a fleece that changes from cinnamon to a soft tan as they age. It's a lovely, all-purpose wool that has a lot of bounce and character. This batch was spun by That Darn Yarn Shop & Mill in Kamloops, BC. Please be aware that there are some slubs in this yarn - that occurs when veggie matter acts as a resist to twist during spinning and when the wool is very soft. Catherine prefers to leave it in as it adds extra character to her knitting, but you can always snip out any slub section and just join the yarn back together.

This wool was sourced from Comfort Tunis in Cardinal, Ontario. Catherine has been working with Comfort Tunis for the past three years and this batch is from the 2021 clip. The 2022 clip is already at the mill, so there will be more Tunis in the Small Bird Workshop's future!
