Polypay - a strange name for a very nice wool! Polypay sheep were developed in the US by crossing Rambouillet, Targhee, Finn, and Dorset genetics. The result is a very bouncy, soft, friendly wool that doesn't get a lot of press.

This batch of Polypay was sourced from an Alberta-flock that's now been sold on (sadly). The farmer had been burning his fleece prior to me showing up and asking to buy it (which is a fairly common story in the world of Canadian wool), and it's a shame - there's a general misconception that we can't raise fine wools in Canada, and that's simply untrue.

Polypay shares many qualities with CVM and Targhee - loft and elasticity being the two most obvious, but to my eye and hand, it's softer than CVM and has more of a lustre. It's a fun wool to spin, and is suitable for both woollen and worsted drafts, and it can do just about any job you throw at it. I've got plans for a sock yarn spin, but the world's your oyster with Polypay!

This pindrafted roving was processed at Wellington Fibres, and it's sold in 100 gram braids. More dyed braids are in the works, so stay tuned!
