It's no secret that Catherine's favourite fibre to spin is Vancouver Island Romney, and add to that the softness of first grade Vancouver Island alpaca? Well, this pindrafted roving is a dream!

The wool is sourced from a farm in Black Creek, BC - Catherine's been working with this farm for four years now, and is on hand on shearing day to skirt fleeces and lend a hand. The lambs wool is shorter in staple than the ewes' wool, and softer, as well - it will be next-to-skin soft for most.

The alpaca was sourced from a local alpaca farm and is only first cut/saddle, which means there are no guard hairs to itch and scratch. While the wool in this mix was white, the alpaca was a blend of chestnut and grey, giving this roving a lovely warm grey tone (in some lights, it has a purple tint) with lots of tonal variations.

Because the lambs' wool has a shorter staple, this pindrafted roving is suitable for either worsted or woollen spinning, although the shine will be more prominent in a worsted spun yarn. And, if you prefer to dye some yourself, you can find the undyed pindrafted roving here!

This pindrafted roving was from the summer 2022 clip, and was processed at Dristex in Alberta. A 100% Canadian product!
